Universal joint shaft for absolutely quiet boats

The highly flexible CENTAFLEX-ACV propeller thrust coupling is a universal joint shaft which is specifically designed for boats and yachts, covering a torque range of up to 11 kNm. The homokinetic joint shaft with its integrated spherical thrust bearing shaft not only absorbs misalignments but also considerably reduces the noise onboard the boat.
 

The CENTAFLEX-ACV, which has been specifically developed for maritime applications, transmits the torque via a maintenance-free highly flexible universal joint shaft. The combination of a homokinetic CV joint on the one side and a flexible CENTAFLEX rubber element as the joint on the other transmits the torque from the gear to the propeller shaft. The propeller thrust or pull is directly transmitted to the hull by means of a flexibly mounted thrust bearing. Therefore, the engine is free of propellor thrust and can be installed on highly flexible engine mounts.

Two flexible CENTAFLEX rubber elements form a double cardanic flexible shaft that is extremely noise and vibration dampening. Noise can thus be reduced by up to 5 dBA. Additionally, the rubber of the coupling interrupts the transmission of the engine noise to the hull and stops vibrations. As a result, the noise level onboard the ship is considerably reduced while also protecting the electronic equipment. CENTAFLEX-ACV compensates for any kind of misalignment, in particular angular ones, and thus reduces wear on the shaft bearing and the gearbox.

CENTAFLEX-ACVs excellent homokinetic features are ideal for larger angles with up to 8 degrees in the CV and up to 2 or 3 degrees in the rubber element, which is a total of 11 degrees.

The coupling is fastened to the cylindrical propellor shaft by means of a securely dimensioned clamping hub, as known from all other CENTAFLEX marine couplings. Expensive machining of the propellor shaft is therefore not necessary. Length adaption is simple and can be made on site. There is no weakening of the propellor shaft diameter caused by a bore or keyway. The flange connection, the hub and the adaptor flange are supplied fully machined for immediate installation.
