Membrane coupling for large distances
Membrane coupling CENTADISC-C 4 for large distances
At this year’s SMM, which takes place in Hamburg from September 26 – 29, CENTA presents a new and innovative product that goes far beyond standard couplings: the new membrane coupling CENTADISC-C 4 allows the user to span larger distances without intermediate bearings in ship propulsions, especially on water jets. It is even possible to provide 10-metre shaft lines by using carbon-fibre reinforced composite shafts.
CENTADISC-C 4 extends the proven CENTADISC-series - offering a considerably higher torque range. The entire range of CENTADISC couplings provides a flexible double cardanic system resulting from the arrangement of 2 sets of membranes with a spacer. The CENTADISC flexible shafts are therefore torsionally stiff, free of backlash, but they compensate for axial, radial and angular misalignment. Both membranes can adjust their outer diameter jointly since they are not rigidly clamped. Misalignments, displacements and alignment problems can thus be evened out. The benefits are obvious: CENTADISC couplings are extremely flexible, thermal-resistant and have a low moment of inertia and high grade balancing. Furthermore, they are free of maintenance and wear and easy to assemble. Single components can easily be replaced thanks to the modular system structure. Another major advantage is that the CENTADISC-C 4 couplings are extremely light.
The materials used for the new coupling series are aimed for high performance applications. A novel adhesive bonding method applies a static safety factor of 5 to the nominal torque. The method is based on systematic research on adhesive processes and a number of in-depth tests of the bonded tubes. These couplings are furthermore extremely corrosion resistant.
The CENTADISC-C covers a torque range from 2 to 20 kNm. The flexible shaft is mainly used for ship propulsion, between gear and engine as well as between gear and jet drive. Cooling tower and pump drives or wind power plants complete the wide range of applications.
CENTA presents cutting-edge technology at SMM, hall A3, stand A3.142, from September 26 – 29, 2006.
